Kanha Travel Guide

Situated in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh, Kanha National Park is a spotlight of Central India Tours and Wildlife and Tiger Tours of India. With an area of more than 310 sq km, Kanha Tiger Reserve presents an interesting landscape. Rolling hills to tablelands to large stretches of grassy meadows, Kanha is covered by dry deciduous forests and is home to a variety of terrestrial and avian fauna such as langurs, tigers, swamp deers, quails, peafowls and many more.

Machans atop the trees offer large doses of jungle adventure as you lie silently and patiently to see wild beasts going about their daily lives in their natural habitats. Tiger sighting tours on elephant backs are exciting and adventurous at the same time. Jeep safaris are quicker but only elephants can carry you to inaccessible areas of the jungle, irrespective of impassable motor tracks that get flooded during summer monsoons.

Places to See

Along with delightful wildlife safaris, tiger trails and birding tours, Kanha National Park offers a wonderful Sunset Point known as Bamni Dadar which is a popular game viewing point; and Kanha Museum within its premises display the topographical map and other interesting points of Kanha. Other tourist attractions nearby that you can cover during your wildlife trip to Kanha are:
  • Kawardha Palace
  • Bandhavgarh National Park
  • Jabalpur
  • Nagpur
Shopping

At Kanha, you should hope to spot a tiger from elephant back and other wild animals and birds in the luxuriant forests of Kanha National Park. Though you can buy basic daily-use items here, there are no shopping venues as such at Kanha. For shopping, you should either go to Jabalpur or Nagpur nearby where you can find sprawling bazaars and good deals on local handicrafts.

Where To Stay

Kanha has several budget accommodations and economy hotels to star hotels that offer ultimate luxury stay options in wilderness settings. You can choose to stay at a forest resort inside the Kanha National Park and wildlife sanctuary or choose a hotel in surrounding city, according to your preference and choice. We recommend:
