Bharatpur, fondly called as the "paradise for ornithologists and bird watchers", is an ancient capital city of king Surajmal. This place is the favorite destination for migratory birds like Siberian crane, Pelicans, Geese , Ducks etc. Every year these migratory birds fly down to the Keoladeo Ghana National park from countries like Siberia and some Central Asian countries to spend some less chilled winter days here in Bharatpur. Nearby to Bhartapur, there is another famous tourist destination named Deeg which encloses an intricately carved palace known as Deeg palace.

Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in 1887 for Raja Raghunath Singh, the younger brother of the then ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ram Singh. In 1994, this Palace was converted into a heritage hotel.
