Commonwealth Games 2010


Commonwealth Games 201079 years ago, in the year 1930, the 1st commonwealth games were held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where 11 nations sent 400 athletes to take part in the event. India will finally make history by hosting the 20th commonwealth games in 2010 from 3rd to 14th October. The event will shoot India into the limelight for being the second Asian nation after Malaysia, to host the games. Delhi is getting ready for the grand sports event of 2010 Commonwealth games. The city of Delhi is expected to greet 1.8 Million foreign visitors and 3.5 Million National Visitors. The organizing committee working under Mr. Suresh Kalmadi has tighten its belts.

The preparations are proceeding on many fronts like transportation, sports facilities, training facilities, lodging facilities, security, entertainment, shopping arcades and a free trip to Taj Mahal, Agra. A new mass modern games village is also coming up at a whopping cost USD 230.7 million over an area of 63.5 hectares with an approximate capacity of 8500 officials and sportsmen.

The athletes from various countries will be seen competing for many categories. This multi sport event will attract a horde of tourists. The Government officials, the travel agents, the hoteliers, the aviation industry all are ready to host the very exciting event.
